Weekly review
A weekly project review checklist
Use this simple weekly review to understand what finished, what is stuck, and what deserves attention next.
A review is more than a status meeting
A useful review helps the team make decisions. It is not a turn-by-turn account of everything people touched during the week. The task list already holds that detail.
Set aside a short, regular time to look at the outcome, finished work, open work, and the reasons something did not move. The goal is to leave with a clearer next week.
1. Revisit the weekly outcome
Read the outcome before reviewing individual tasks. Did the completed work create the change you wanted, or did the team simply stay busy? A task can be done without the outcome being achieved.
2. Confirm what is actually done
Check completed actions against their finish conditions. If something still needs approval, publishing, or measurement, update the task instead of calling it complete too early.
3. Look at overdue and blocked work
For every open action, decide whether it still matters. Identify the blocker, the person who can resolve it, and the next follow-up. Do not carry a task forward only because it already exists.
4. Capture the lesson
Write down anything that should change the next plan. The team may need smaller tasks, earlier client approvals, fewer priorities, or more realistic capacity. One honest sentence is enough if it improves the next week.
5. Choose the next commitment
Finish the review by naming the next outcome and the first action. You do not need to plan every detail in the meeting, but the team should know what deserves attention when work resumes.
- What outcome did we intend to move?
- What finished and what evidence do we have?
- What remains open, overdue, or blocked?
- What should be dropped, rewritten, or moved?
- What is the next outcome and first action?
